Following a real-life version of Warner Bros. Bolaris was suspended by his employer, Fox 29, for allegedly leaking the story to the Philadelphia Daily News. In late December, he was officially let go. According to the Playboy article via Gawker , the situation occurred in March during the course of two days. On the first night, two beautiful European women at a sushi bar approached Bolaris. Receiving a call from his new friends, who informed him that he had purchased the painting at an auction, Bolaris agreed to join them for another night of partying.
The next morning, Bolaris woke up alone with no memory of the previous night and the painting nowhere to be found. The painting? Eventually, the FBI opened an investigation and indicted 17 members of the Russian mob, who are accused of scamming at least 88 men in South Beach.
Bolaris is quoted throughout the story, in which he admits he went with the women because "I'm a guy. There was the thought I might get laid," and discusses his reputation as a ladies man. He also shares nude photos of women on his cell phone with Playboy writer Pat Jordan. According to Philly. Several months ago, sources say, Bolaris came to work, then announced he was sick and went home after arguing with management, which did not want him to interview his friend Lenny Dykstra.
Bolaris had offered an exclusive interview with the disgraced baseball star. Sources close to Bolaris say the station had accused him in May of leaking the Miami story to the Daily News and that management was upset that he was participating in the Playboy profile about his Miami saga. We're told Bolaris reported for work Thursday only to learn he was suspended.
He did not appear in Thursday evening newscasts. A Fox 29 spokeswoman confirmed the suspension but would not comment on the nature of the suspension nor when the weatherman would return.
